Avery Brewing Company
I’ve always been a fan of Avery’s popular White Rascal so I was itching to visit their brewery in Boulder. That day finally came to fruition, and it by far exceeded any of my expectations. Their onsite taproom has two floors and an expansive outdoor seating area! They also serve some pretty great food from a frequently evolving menu. One of the best things about our visit though was the “Tap Room Rarities” that they had to offer! Most of these unique beers were barrel aged and one of them clocks in at 16% ABV! That bad Larry is called the Irish Goodnight- it’s a milk stout aged in Irish whiskey barrels! Avery has a lot to offer, but on my visit I stuck with stouts and it was a great decision! My favorite was the Night Warden, which is a lighter whiskey aged stout at 8.2% ABV. If the name alone doesn’t entice you to try this then the invigorating smell of it surely will! With notes of coffee and subtle hints of vanilla blanketed by a healthy balance and smell from the whiskey barrels, it’s one of the best stouts I’ve had! I was also pretty fond of the Vanilla Bean Stout, at 10.8% ABV this stout means business and it lets it’s name do all the talking! It’s a solid choice, this stout is barrel aged with whole vanilla beans- which is pretty evident from the first sip! The vanilla is expertly balanced though, so it’s not too overpowering- it’s just right! I also had a taster of their Lilikoi Kepolo, you know- just for good measure! At 5.4% ABV this traditional witbier is really refreshing, especially because it’s adorned with tropical passionfruit! By all accounts, this beer is damn good. Everything about Avery is damn good! If you haven’t been there yet, then you need to check it out! I recommend making a reservation though, because the fact that this place is amazing is no secret!
