River North Brewing Company

I've always fancied myself quite the accomplished angler, so when I heard about River North’s Ice Fishing League I was estacic and chomping at the bit to get over to their taprooms and cast my line. That's right, they have some of the best ice fishing in the state! If you're not familiar with the art of the catch, don't sweat it, as a part time fishmonger I'll enlighten you about all the tricks of trade. The basics are pretty straightforward and I'm sure that you'll be able to give the Gorton’s fishing dude a run for his money. Put on that proverbial yellow fishing coat and listen up. Here are the rules, straight from River North:

  1. Head out to either taproom when the daily high is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit...bundle up!

  2. Ask your bartender if you can join the Ice Fishing League.

  3. For every full pour that you consume outside on the patio, you catch a fish!

  4. Catch six fish, get a free crowler of the week! No substitutions. Can be combined with other fishing league cards (in case you forget one at home) and you do not need to catch all six fish in one trip!

  5. Once you catch six fish, turn in your card for your free crowler. Make sure to put your name on the back of the card (and email), so we can enter you in for a drawing at the end of the season!

Now that's my kind of fishing; trust me, you're going to want to partake! I recommend that you catch yourself a pint of the Raspberry Soiree. This haul is a kettle sour that’s outlined by smooth characteristics added from the raspberries that adds just a touch of sweetness to that mouthwatering tart! At 5.5% ABV it's a very clean drinkable beer that will keep your palate coming back for more! If you're yearning for a little bit bigger of a catch then bait up your hook for the Mr. Sandman! This American Imperial Stout is utterly impressive; it's adorned with hints of coffee, caramel, and vanilla that all come together in an 11.2% ABV dream! This was definitely one of my best catches, I proudly display the empty Crowler above my fireplace mantle, and everytime I crack another one open, I shed a single tear of pride. If that's a bit too intense for you then you could also try the Pils which is a much lighter traditional German lager. Either way, River North has something for everyone! If you haven't been there, then the time is now- you have to check this place out! They have two taprooms, one on Blake Street downtown and another off of N Washington.
