Spangalang Brewery
The meaning of Spangalang is hope- well not really. Spangalang is actually a signature jazz cymbal rhythm that is essentially the basic beat in Jazz. Since this brewery is located in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood, which is where the epicenter of the Jazz scene in Denver was, it’s very fitting. One of the owners of this amazing place, Taylor Rees, casually took the time to explain all of this to me and how the name ultimately pays homage to both Denver’s Five Points and Jazz itself. This is one of the reasons that for me, the meaning of Spangalang Brewery is hope- because this brewery is the definition of what a Denver brewery should be. It’s one more example of how there are still businesses and people in the world who care more about the interests of others before their own. Spangalang Brewery is a staple to the community; with how crazy everything in the world may seem right now; you can still count on quality conversation with great people along with extremely high quality, ice-cold craft beer (All while still responsibly socially distanced of course). The owners passion for their community, it’s history, and their craft of brewing are all clearly evident in the quality of their beer! My favorite here was the 3rd STREAM TRIPEL, which at a very respectable 8.3 ABV- is a very wholesome, delicious classic Belgian Style Tripel! It has a lot of subtle flavors that directly adds to the fruity nose of the beer, you have to try it! They have a bunch of other great beer options too like their VIVRANT THING, PASSION FRUIT SOUR, BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL, MS. BEHAVIN’ AGAIN and more! I also tried the Vivrant Thing, which is a complex barrel aged sour. According to the menu it’s, “A blend of three different beers aged in both red and white wine barrels.” but what it really is, is an amazingly crafted beer that you need to try! It has just enough tart to be perfectly sour on the palate but is not too overpowering at all! Whether you live in Denver or not, going to this brewery is a must- cheers!
